zHELLER HOLOCAUST

Jews mark the Kristallnacht of 1938, 80th anniversary on November 9, 2018. Kristallnacht is also known as The Night of the Broken Glass. On this night, November 9, 1938, almost 200 synagogues were destroyed, over 8,000 Jewish shops were sacked and looted, and tens of thousands of Jews were removed to concentration camps. The beautiful books on display were obtained through a new initiative: The Louis and Mae Heller Initiative for Holocaust and Human Rights Education for Young Children. This program allows Temple Bnai Israel’s Hochberg Holocaust and Human Rights Committee to provide grants to area libraries in honor and remembrance of Willimantic residents, and Holocaust survivors, Lou and Mae Heller. Many people in the United States observe Yom Hashoah, which is also known as Holocaust Remembrance Day. It commemorates the lives and heroism of Jewish people who died in the Holocaust between 1933 and 1945. Yom Hashoah will be observed this year on Wednesday, April 11th. The beautiful books on display were obtained through a new initiative: The Louis and Mae Heller Initiative for Holocaust and Human Rights Education for Young Children.
